Since 1876, the University of Oregon has helped people discover who they are and who they can become. That purpose still guides us today. As we look ahead, we remain committed to expanding opportunity and enriching lives here in Oregon and beyond.
How It Started
In October 1876, we opened our doors with one building, five faculty members and 150 students. Today, UO educates more than 20,000 Ducks across ten colleges and schools, led by the same bold determination that defined us from the start.
Where We're Headed Next
The next chapter is Oregon Rising, where we're focused on our greatest asset—our people—while doubling down on signature scholarship in environmental resilience, youth behavioral health, human performance and sport, and accelerating innovation and scientific impact.
