outreach
Since our inception, the UOWGS has been committed not only to helping women become successful scientists but also to community outreach. To date, the UOWGS has held blood drives and aided in toy collection for Toys for Tots. Additionally, we have gone to area primary and high schools to speak on what it is like to be a scientist in order to encourage students to think about careers in science. We would like to continue our committment to the community in any way possible. If you have suggestions or would like to be part any of our outreach activities, please contact our outreach chair Ashley Lamm.

High School Outreach
Middle School Outreach
Last year we had volunteers go to Sheldon High School and South Eugene High School to talk about what it is like to be a scientist, what an advanced degree in the sciences can do for you, and what we, as scientists, are accomplishing with our research. This year we are keeping this program going and will not only be travelling to a few area high schools, but we will be hosting classes on campus for a day of science demos and tours. If you would like to have your class(es) participate in our activities, please contact Ashley Lamm.
Below are links to a few powerpoint presentations used in last year's outreach program. Please feel free to check them out.

We are very interested in opening up what was an exceptionally successful primary and high school outreach programs to our area schools. Once again, if you are interested in having some scientists from the University of Oregon and some local businesses come out to talk to your classes, please contact our outreach chair, Ashley Lamm.
