September
2009:
Welcome back everyone! We are looking forward to the upcoming
Fall events: the taco lunch for open recruitment was decided to be on
Fri., Oct. 9 in Willamette Atrium. We are participating in an
educational "CSI" event for girls on Thurs., Oct. 15 in Portland. We
need more volunteers for this event, so if you are interested please
contact us. The practice run for those experiments will take
place on Mon., Oct. 12. The first fundraiser (Track Town) will
take place after the busy month of October. The current mission
statement needs revamping, so everyone will bring their ideas to the
next meeting, to be held in October.
April 2009:
We are pleased to announce that our
Sara J. Staggs Undergraduate Transition Award (deadline May 15th) has
been matched by Pete Sylvester and Brett Williams of Life Technologies.
For this year only, the award will be worth a total of $900.
Thank you very much Pete and Brett!
January 2009:
The Track Town Pizza fundraiser was
a success! We are holding another
fundraiser in January at Winestyles:
10% of wine sales support UOWGS on the
week of Feb 17 when you mention our
organization! Discussion at
this meeting also included talk about lots of exciting upcoming events! Our upcoming banquet is
going to be held April 4th, and
Sara Staggs will be our keynote
speaker. The Generations Luncheon is also
fast approaching on April 25th. Finally, keep an eye open for
information regarding scholarships and awards which will soon be up on our website!
December 2008:
This month the discussion has been
about organizing fundraising events for UOWGS. In January, we are
having a fundraiser at Track Town Pizza, where 50% of the proceeds from
pizza purchased on the day will directly go to UOWGS. In February, we
are having a wine-tasting at WineStyles, where 50% of wine-tasting fees
($5 per person) and 10% of other purchases will benefit UOWGS. Come out
to both these events and show your support!
We are also having a Resume Writing Workshop with the Career Center on
January 13th. Please r
remember that Resumes are due to be submitted to
UOWGS by Jan. 5th.
