Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to own my own horse?
A: Absolutely not! The UO equestrian team provides many opportunities to lease or take lessons with local trainers. Triple Rise Equestrian Center gives equestrian team members 25 percent off lessons and is the premier huntseat training facility in the Eugene area.

Q: Can I ride my own horse in the shows?
A: No. We compete on horses that are donated for the use of the show. You may arrange to have your horse donated to the show for the day, but that does not guarantee you will get to ride it.

Q: I have my own trainer, do I have to use a different one for the team?
A: No, we respect any training program you may be involved in. All lessons, clinics, and seminars offered are optional.

Q: Do I have to attend every show?
A: No, shows are also optional. HOWEVER if you sign up to go to a show and then don't show up, you will be charged the cost of your entry fees for that show.

Q: Do I have to have my own show clothes?
A: We recommend you have some of your own show clothes. At a minimum you should have your own boots and helmet.

Q: Do I have to attend all meetings?
A: Yes. Members who do not attend a meeting will not attend the following weeks show.

Q: Are membership dues refundable? What if I can only show for one term?
A: All dues are non-refundable.

Q: How many shows does the team compete in?
A: Typically between three to five per term.

Q: I ride English, where should I board my horse?
A: We recommend Triple Rise Equestrian Center. If they aren't able to accommodate you and your horse, they know who will.

Q: I ride Western, where do I board my horse?
A: Currently the UO equestrian team has no official western barn or trainers. Please contact an equestrian team member for suggestions.
