Oregon Bowling
History
The University of Oregon had one of the nation’s most popular bowling programs between 1949 and 1972. However, between those years, Bowling at the University of Oregon was a Varsity Sport. These were the years Bowling was coached by Lou Bellisimo, who is nicknamed “Mr. Scientific” because of his extreme knowledge of bowling form and ball action. His men’s teams won the Western regional championships 18 times while his 1963-64 squad reigned as the nation’s top collegiate bowler.
Bellisimo is author of the best selling instructional bowling book ever written, “The Bowler’s Manual,” which sold over 200,000 copies its first three editions. Bellisimo was inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in 1986, as well as, the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Bowler's Manual gives you an easy, step-by-step, illustrated method that makes learning this sport, or improving your skill, a simple matter of practice and trying. Written by an expert coach and champion bowler, this book shows you the right and wrong in techniques, and covers every point you need to know to master this game.
