PROGRAM GOALS Come experience NYC, the biggest city in North America and one of its premiere art centers. The access is diverse - public art, museums, dealers and artist-run centers. Experience all the levels of contemporary art. You will have the opportunity to critique, discuss and most importantly to keep a blog (web-log) of your daily observations. This eight-day trip will incorporate a travelogue with criticality, a keen observant eye, and daily accounts of your experience culminating with a postscript that reflects your own and the collaborative experience of the trip. You will be able to post images, private thoughts, a collection of links, your personal soapbox; always with art in mind and always a reflection of your daily experience of the galleries, art museums and public art. Consideration of the local culture, modes of transportation, and communication will individualize your blog. A portion of each day will be spent visiting a range of venues in Tribeca/Lower Manhattan, Soho, Chelsea, uptown and Brooklyn. Some of the locations include the Whitney, the MOMA, P.S 1, the Guggenheim, the Met, DIA Beacon, the Drawing Centre, Printed Matter, Deitch Projects, Gagosian Gallery, David Zwirner, and alternative spaces like Art in General, the New Museum and working artist’s studios. There will also be free time to explore on your own. NOT SURE about how to keep a blog or you are not web savvy or you don’t own a laptop, NO NEED TO WORRY, blogs are push button publishing, you will be guided through the process and laptops will be organized for those without. In addition to the daily activities and discussions, you will be expected to attend a pre-trip meeting, and to keep up your blog while in New York, including a postscript after the trip. |
