Research
My main area of research is in trauma, particularly the effects of child abuse and
neglect, sexual assault, and war. My dissertation investigates how betrayal trauma may explain why depression and anxiety occurs much more often in women than in men. I am also interested in the roles that culture and spirituality play in the healing process.
Psychotherapy
My clinical orientation emphasizes a relational approach with the goal of fostering a sense of social connectedness. In addition, I employ a variety of therapeutic techniques, including cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My particular clinical interests are working with people who have experienced chronic trauma.
