Honors in Russian & East European Studies
Students with an overall GPA of at least 3.50 are eligible
to try to win honors in the major. This involves writing
a thesis under the supervision of a REESC faculty
member. Students interested in honors
should meet with an adviser at the end of their junior
year or beginning of their senior year to discuss
a possible thesis topic. This topic must
be submitted to the center director as a formal proposal,
with the adviser’s
signature. If the proposal is approved, the student registers for a minimum
of 4 credits of REES 403 Thesis (this must occur at least one quarter before
the term of graduation), writes the thesis, and defends it before the main
adviser and a second faculty adviser. A successful thesis defense will
result in graduation with honors in Russian & East European Studies.
