Prerequisite: Math 95 or satisfactory placement test score.

Contemporary Precalculus 4th ed. by Thomas W. Hungerford

Textbook: (required) Contemporary Precalculus 4th ed. by Thomas W. Hungerford. This textbook is for both Math 111 and 112. If you don't plan to continue on to Math 112, UO bookstore sells a green-cover "Math 111" textbook that is identical to the first half of Hungerford.

Calculator: A graphing calculator is useful, but not required. Keep in mind that if you will continue on to calculus, you will need a graphing calculator for those classes. Most students use TI-83, TI-83+, or TI-84.

Homework will be due roughly three times a week on WebAssign. You need to purchase WebAssign access code ($7.95) from its webpage or UO bookstore.

Quizzes will be given roughly once a week. Two lowest homework scores and two lowest quiz scores will be dropped. There will be two midterms on Mon 10/23 and Mon 11/20. The final exam is on Wed 6 Dec, 10:15am - 12:15pm in the usual classroom.

No late homework. Late quizzes or exams are accommodated only for important emergencies accompanied by an official verification. Students whose schedule conflicts with a test/exam should let me know well in advance to work out an alternative.

Grading:
Homework 15%
Quizzes 15%
Two midterms 40%
Final exam 30%

Letter grades will more-or-less follow the standard 90-80-70-60 cutoffs, with appropriate +/-. You may not receive more than one grade higher in the course than the grade you earn on the final exam.
