Mission

The MRC's primary goal is to provide students with the opportunity to inform their design decisions through hands-on experience with materials related to design and construction.

History

The MRC was established in 1991 by a group of students in response to a growing demand from the School of Architecture and Allied Arts to have its own library of building material samples and specification information. Since that time, the MRC has grown to include over 3,000 catalogues and product samples. The MRC is one of two such resource centers among West Coast schools.

In 1998, the AAA administration responded to the MRC's growing spatial requirements by approving a relocation and merger with the Interior Architecture Program's resource collection. Student Coordinator, Andy Enright and professor John Rowell of Rowell Architecture collaborated to propose a 700 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that would accommodate individual research, class meetings and special presentations.

Today, the MRC is operated and maintained by a staff of student volunteers, and utilized by students and faculty alike.
