The University of Oregon Men’s Lacrosse team’s goal is to continue to become the current and future leaders of lacrosse in the Northwest. As a team, our goal is no less than a MCLA National Championship. Off the field, the team is committed to the development of lacrosse in the Northwest through youth clinics and creating excitement for lacrosse in Oregon and the surrounding area.
1. A MCLA National Championship:
- Over the past six years, the Oregon Men’s Lacrosse program has gone from 8th place in the PNCLL conference to 1st in the nation. We have been nationally ranked for the past five years, finishing out in the top ten the past four consecutive years. We finished the 2007 season 2nd in the nation, making it all the way to the National Championship game. We have also won the PNCLL championship the past four years in a row. This previous success allows the current team goal to be a National Championship. Every member of our team has devoted themselves to this goal by devoting nearly twenty hours of athletic activity per week, making our program as competitive as many NCAA Division II and III varsity teams.
2. Development of Team Members
- We believe being a club team has many strengths and opportunities that are not available at the varsity level. Our philosophy as a team is to foster positive growth and instill maturity in our student-athletes, creating players who are more than fine lacrosse players. We provide unique opportunities for students to excel not just as athletes, but as leaders as well. This can be found on and off the field. Student-athletes are not only encouraged to contribute by being captains or leading drills, but also by helping in fundraising, coordination of trips, and promotion of the team. All of these opportunities are available for players and are necessary for ensuring the continued success of our program. Each member of the team helps in a least one of these areas.
3. Local and Regional Promotion of the Sport
- Every member of our team loves the game of lacrosse. We each show this through our financial and time commitment. It is this love that we want to share with the communities in and around Oregon. There is no doubt we will be the coaches and mentors of thousands of youth for generations to come. Proof of this lies in the graduating class of 2005, one former player now plays professionally for the Portland Lumberjax and every other graduate from that year is now a coach at the high school level. Each of them have also continued to play the game either at the club or recreational level.
