Re: diglib: outsourcing digitizing?

Last year MDLS experimented with outsourcing some digitization. I'll have to double-check with the people involved but I think it was considered a success.

Jon,

The UO Libraries have been approached already about outsourcing our digitizing efforts (i.e., Proquest and the Oregonian). I think the DCC has confirmed that outsourcing is an approach we would take as appropriate. No library, especially one given our resources, can take on performing all aspects of every the possible digital project we want to pursue. Since we are a member of Portico, the "dark journal archive," you could say we have outsourced digital preservation for a certain portion of our e-journals.
My two cents, Faye

I had a conversation at Online Northwest with an OCLC rep (Cynthia Busse) about our digitizing efforts. She hinted that OCLC is developing services along these lines, but didn't offer many specifics. I though outsourcing might have come up in last Friday's brown bag, but it didn't.

Any thoughts?
