Digital Content Coordinators Meeting
January 30, 2006
Attending: Eliz Breakstone, Sara Brownmiller, Faye Chadwell, Bob Felsing,
Corey Harper, J.D. Hauger, Carol Hixson, Jon Jablonski, Lori Robare, Tom Stave
Updates:
Jon Jablonski reported on a project he's involved in for scanning campus
planning maps. These will be fairly large TIFF files and they are thinking
of adding them to Scholars' Bank, either in a new community/collection or
as part of an existing collection. Scanning will be done at AAA.
Tom Stave reported on a project they are planning involving collecting
documents from the Willamette National Forest web site. They have a meeting
planned with Elaine Bernat to discuss the project. Initially, the plan is
to capture the documents within Scholars' Bank.
J.D. reported that they have deployed a prototype for streaming audio
access to music reserves as part of the digital audio initiative.
Corey reported on his work to reorganize some of the digital images
collections relating to art images to comply with decisions made by the AAA
project team when they met to discuss Art on File and Saskia images.
LOCKSS
The group discussed the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS model. Faye provided an overview
and other members asked questions and provided additional bits of
information. The general consensus was that the Digital Content
Coordinators would recommend to Library Admin further exploration of the
LOCKSS model and its feasibility. Faye, Sara, and Carol will work on
drafting something to take forward to Library Admin and Council.
Digital Content Survey
Corey and Carol reported on their development and testing of a survey form
using SurveyMonkey. The group reviewed the questions and answers from the
sample collection that they had provided answers for. Carol will make
modifications to the survey questions to take the group's suggestions into
account. Jon, J.D., Bob, and Faye indicated their willingness to test out
the survey form. Carol will also ask either Normandy or Erin to test out
the form on one of the collections of digital materials under the control
of Special Collections. When the form has been revised, Carol will notify
the form test group so that they can fill out the form.
