diglib: NEED A TIMELY RESPONSE: XML archival copies
Dear DCC folks:
The Library has acquired access to 35 e-books (all reference titles) from
Thomson Gale. We are paying an annual hosting fee but Gale also is
providing us with zipped xml compliant copies of each book. We
received four such archival copies on CD back in the summer. For
our most recent order of 31 titles, Gale is sending us to a site where we
can download our archival copies. CDA will take care of downloading
our archival copies. However, I need to know:
What server should we be downloading these copies to?
How do we get access to this server?
If we aren't supposed to have such access, what steps should we take to
be sure that aren't left in some folder among CDA's poison files.
Right now, there are 25 separate files to download. Here is the time
concern: Gale is giving us 7 days to download (well, make that 6
days now). Otherwise they are sending us 31 CDs. I really
really don't want more damn CDs hanging around for us to lose.
These 25 files amount to 140.26 MB. Gale needs to provide the
downloadable files for seven more titles.
The other four titles we have on two separate CDs (not the best storage
medium, mind you) weigh in at:
26, 786 KB
7600 kb (approx)
2220 kb
3438 kb
Bob has been looking at these four files and it appears that Gale might
have missed sending us a fairly important document. I am trying to
get that document. With it, Bob is pretty sure we can
strip out Gale's xml tags and strip out the Gale tags and read the
files. He could comment more about what he found if
necessary.
I am sure you have questions. Please note that we have current
access to these titles. We are not talking about hosting these
ourselves at this time. These are just archival copies--but they
are our only archival copies.
