Gunnar is currently the Executive Director of the Yestermorrow School in Vermont, which emphasizes environmentally conscious design-build techniques for professionals in the design field, students pursuing design degrees as well as people interested in cr eating and building. He has been active with the Union of Concerned Scientists and is a graduate of the Architecture program at the University of Oregon. He has also participated in the "Greening of the White House" project and has lectured at universit ies around the country.
The architectural process cannot be understood and appreciated without a knowledge of the components. This workshop will investigate different means and methods for designing and constructing ecologically sound buildings, and also considering aesthetics and beauty. The morning will involve several workgroups focusing on sustainable design strategies for different building types in a range of climatic conditions. The afternoon will be a hands-on building process utilizing straw bale, recycled building m aterials, and alternative building products.
