- Green Eugene Bike Tour
CASL and Jan Spencer (of the Eugene Permaculture Guild) host a visit through sites around Eugene that demonstrate sustainable living in action. Locations include a "suburban renewal" site, a permaculture co-op, and an eco-village -- all within Eugene city limits! Find out about: solar energy, rainwater catchment, wildlife habitat creation, urban agriculture, concrete conversions, home-based economies, straw-bale & cob structures, gray-water filtering & re-use, living roofs, adaptive re-use of materials, storm water swales, and more!
Meet on Saturady, Nov 18, 2006 at the Amphitheater of the UO's Erb Memorial Union. 11 a.m.
This event will happen, rain or shine.
- CASL Converts Unused Fruit to Juice
On October 6, CASL converted the bountiful harvest from East Campus fruit trees into 10-15 gallons of apple, pear and asian pear cider. CASL was joined by numerous students, faculty, community members and even a handful of curious kids from the Child Care and Development Center; all of whom had their juicy appetites satiated.
Many thanks to of all the people who came and help sqeezed juice, and to Correll Cider Presses (Elmira, OR) for giving us use of a cider press for the day.
- CASL Coordinators Visit CCAT
On Memorial Day weekend, 2006, CASL coordinators took a retreat to CCAT a sustainability demonstration house at Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA.
CCAT has served as motivation and a model for CASL's future over the four years of CASL's exisistence. CASL's former and future coordinators toured CCAT and strategized for the future in collaboration with CCAT's codirectors.

- Portable Pedal Power production continues
CASL continues to oversee the production of a project initiated with world-class designer and engineer Burt Rutan.
The project is called Portable Pedal Power and it is the creation of a bicycle trailer with integrated pedal power generators. We have created one such prototype generator so far and design and production of the remaining unit is ongoing.
Contact CASL if interested in volunteering. Course credit is available.
- Join CASL: Available Positions
CASL is seeking coordinators for the 2006/2007 school year. Be in on the literal groundbreaking of this project! Interested volunteers can apply online at any time.

- Burt Rutan Designs With Students
On April 26, 2005 CASL and the EDC held a design workshop with reknowned designer/engineer Burt Rutan. The workshop which focused on designing "Portable Pedal Power" involved University students, faculty, and staff from many disciplines. Production of the final design proceeds. Contact CASL if interested in working on the final production.
- CASL Granted Temporary Space
On Wednesday, April 7, 2005 the University Space Committee demonstrated their commitment to CASL by granting us "surge" (or temporary) space. This space in the UO Annex will serve as our office and headquarters while we are waiting for our permanent house in East Campus.
- CASL Awarded Funding for Portable Pedal Power
Burt Rutan has enthusiastically selected our proposal Portable Pedal Power as the focus for the Koehn Colloquium workshop on the morning of Tuesday, April 26, 2005. The project's proposal is posted here. Planning is beginning immediately, so please see the calendar or e-mail the coordinators if you want to get involved.
