This website contains some of the general policies and practices of the Office of Student Advocacy. If you have specific questions or concerns please contact the office directly.

Office of Student Advocacy (OSA) services are free to eligible students. An eligible student is any student enrolled at the University of Oregon who has paid the incidental fee at the time advocacy services are requested. Once an eligible student requests services he or she remains eligible for services regarding the problem for a period not to exceed thirty days from the termination of eligibility for failure to pay the incidental fee. On rare occasions students may be required to pay extraordinary costs and/or expenses associated with their case.

No student is required to use the services of the Office of Student Advocacy.
Students may, at all times, obtain assistance from an attorney or other person of their choice at their own expense.

Availability:

Office of Student Advocacy services are available on an appointment basis.

Conflict Policy:

OSA can not assist a student in a grievance or complaint against another student or ASUO Program. OSA adheres to the Oregon State Bar's ethics rules governing conflicts between parties.

Confidentiality Policy:

OSA attorneys and staff maintain strict confidentiality. OSA will not release any information about a student's case without prior authorization from the student.

Constraints:

Office of Student Advocacy staff can advise and assist students in preparing grievances, petitions, and other materials, however, all claims filed pursuant to Oregon Administrative Rules must be submitted by the student, and not OSA staff.

OSA is prohibited from representing students in litigation against the ASUO, its officers, agents and employees, the University of Oregon, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education; or the State of Oregon.
