Recognizing the need for a cross disability voice on campus students with disabilities and their allies established the AccessABILITY (AASU) Student Union in the 2007-2008 academic year. ASUO officially recognized AccessABILITY as a student group in the spring of 2008. In its short history, AccessABILITY (AASU) has:
*Offered weekly meetings where student can connect
*Invited nationally renown speakers to further on campus dialogue around disability
*Advocated in front of the Oregon Board of Higher Education
*Met with university administrator to promote universal design in physical, academic and social environments on campus.
Its inception has created a much need space for students with disabilities to come together, advocate for change, share resources, and provide a community of mutual support and learning.
