Hayward
Field is one of the world's most famous track-and-field stadiums. Steve Prefontaine, one of the best and most controversial track athletes of the 1970s, never lost a meet here. With a capacity of 10,000, Hayward Field hosted the 2001 NCAA Championships for the ninth time and the USA Outdoor Track-and-Field Championships. The U.S. Olympic Trials were held at Hayward Field in 1972, 1976, and 1980, and will return in 2008. And every May, the stadium hosts the IAAF Grand Prix Prefontaine Classic, the premiere track-and-field meet in the United States.
