Hello and Welcome to the Website for the
Department of Chemistry at the University of Oregon!

Our department is world-renowned in many areas of teaching, research, and scholarship. It has a rich history of commitment to educating students in chemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research advances made by faculty and students within the department have made significant contributions to many areas of chemistry, including biochemistry, materials and nanoscience, chemical physics, molecular synthesis, medicinal chemistry, optics and spectroscopy, and theoretical chemistry.Research is also used in parallel with course work as a vehicle for training undergraduate and graduate students in the most advanced topics in the field of chemistry and biochemistry, as well as in a number of interdisciplinary areas. These attributes as well as state-of-the-art science facilities make the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oregon a unique center for pursuing both an undergraduate and graduate degree in chemistry. Situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley, surrounded by the spectacular Cascade Mountain Range and coastal rain forest, Eugene and its surroundings provide an attractive place to live and work.

There is great new energy and vitality in the department, with the recent addition of several faculty as well as new positions to fill as part of an expansion of the faculty. The first building of the new multidisciplinary Integrated Sciences Complex, the Lorry I. Lokey Laboratories, recently opened. New research instrumentation destined for Lokey Lab is arriving almost monthly. Planning and fundraising for the second building of the Integrated Sciences Complex is already underway. All in all, the future of chemistry at Oregon is very bright, and I am proud to have been selected recently to head the Department during such exciting times. Come see for yourself!
